Up until very recently the delayed start worked very well for us, but the devs have tweaked something so that this no longer seems to work. Right now, the regatta opens at 8am UTC and we get placed accordingly when we take our first task.
The Playrix forum admin did say that delayed starts still work but didn't elaborate, so we don't know whether that means delaying our starts even more, or whether it suits teams of a certain size/race style.
Previously, when we've been quite high on the leaderboard, our low point start task would help us avoid the bulk of perfect racing teams, but this doesn't seem to be happening either. The other thing we should be aware of, is to hold back from taking a task as soon as the first person starts our race, simply because, we want to make sure that the low point task has registered on the servers and placed us in the race before any 135 point task is taken into account.
Playrix have stated previously that they consider 115 and over to be high point tasks.
Looking at our scores for this year, we've only ever come 1st twice, the second time was in our first week back in the gold league after being demoted. Other than that we would often hit 2nd or 3rd on the podium.
We need to start looking at how we want to race. Right now we don't know whether getting back into the gold league is going to be easy, or if we can reach 1st place again when we do.
So we have 2 options at the moment. One is to see whether we can reach the podium in our next gold league race and maybe just aim for that once a month if/when we get demoted, and the other is to work on decreasing our leaderboard score, so that we get back to our previous levels around the 10k mark. Or maybe both.
In order to decrease our score substantially we need to race in the middle of the pack so that we don't get too high a score, or complete less than 15 tasks each. Previously the race score would be the total of the 4 races. This meant that we only needed 1 poor race to make a difference, but now, it's the best 2 scores out of the 4 races, which means we would have to race poorly for at least 3 races to make a difference.
So currently, I'm waiting to see how this week goes and then see what happens when we're next in gold.
